Come Together.
For 120 years, over 150,000 First Nations children were forcibly separated from their families to attend Indian Residential School run by churches and funded by the government. They were stripped of their culture and suffered physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. The effects of residential schools still impact societies, cultures, and families today.

"Our First Nations brothers and sisters have been deeply wounded by people who claimed to be serving Christ. Those of us who follow Christ have a calling to reflect the true face of Jesus to First Nations people as we welcome, love, and serve them. One of best first steps we can take in this direction is to become familiar with their story in the residential schools by viewing powerful and moving films like We Were Children and to be praying together on what our next steps are as the Body of Christ in what we are called to do. "One of the saddest chapters of our nation's history turns on the pain around the abuses our Native friends suffered in the Residential Schools. We Were Children tells the story most of us either do not know or simply do not want to face. But know it and face it we must … for the sake of the soul of First Nations People … and for the soul of Canada. This is the justice and healing issue of our time."
